Unit Overview:  The Southwest Research and Outreach Center (SWROC) is located near the town of Lamberton, MN at the geographical center of the 14-county area comprising southwest MN. The SWROC conducts cropping systems research in the fields of sustainable cropping systems, water and nutrients management in agricultural systems, organic agriculture, and pest management. Contributions to agricultural production are conducted via research, extension, and outreach activities with an emphasis on graduate and undergraduate training. The primary workplace of this position is the SWROC at 23669 130th Street, Lamberton, MN 56152. The incumbent is expected to spend part of her/his time in the Department of Agronomy and Plant Genetics located on the University of Minnesota St. Paul Campus.

Appointment Information:  We are seeking a dynamic and motivated candidate for a Postdoctoral position in the area of Crop Modeling Applications / Sustainable Cropping Systems in the Department of Agronomy and Plant Genetics and Southwest Research and Outreach Center (SWROC). This is a 2-yr position which may be renewable subject to continued need and funding based on performance.

Position Overview / Responsibilities: The postdoc will use crop simulation models for studying the influence of cover crops on corn/soybean cropping systems and the environment. This will involve calibration, validation, and application of crop models from various decision support systems to study the effects of integrated management practices on crop growth and yield as well as nitrogen and water use and efficiencies (80%). The Postdoc is expected to support faculty researchers and supervise/guide graduate students within the area of crop modeling applications and model outputs analysis (20%).

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in Agronomy or Agricultural Engineering
  • Experience with crop simulation models and decision support systems
  • Experience with research in crops water and N use
