Thirty CFANS students presented their summer internship experiences at a showcase on November 18 in the Cargill building.
The event—the Plant Science and SAFS Student Showcase and Networking Event— was a culmination of Agronomy and Plant Genetics Professor Katy Guthrie’s Professional Experience Program course, which requires students to work with private companies, public agencies, or nonprofit organizations involved in plant production or food systems. Students in this fall’s course are majoring in Plant Science, Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems, Animal Science, and Environmental Sciences, Police and Management.
Internships ranged from soil sampling and plant tagging at the UMN Arboretum, researching genome editing in plants in a University lab, working with Somali food businesses to help strengthen food access in St. Cloud, and designing landscapes for residential clients.
