Teaching

I teach two undergraduate courses in the Plant Sciences major. AGRO 1103 - Crops, Society, and Environment covers the fundamentals of food, fuel and fiber production from plants and how that production is connected to communities and nature. I also teach AGRO 4605 - Data-Drive Agronomy, which is an upper-level agronomy course focused on data-driven methods to improve agricultural management. AGRO 5604 is a graduate-level offering of that course. 

Research

The objective of my research group is to improve the profitability and sustainability of cropping systems. Our highly collaborative team relies on the principles of plant ecology, field experiments, and statistical modeling to achieve these goals. Key components of our strategy include (1) improving the management of perennial crops in crop rotations and (2) enhancing crop diversity at local, watershed, and regional scales. We work closely with the Forever Green Initiative to lead agronomic research on perennial crops such as Kernza® and strive to disseminate our research to various agricultural stakeholder groups to support and promote alternative crop production.
